At Least I Am Compared With The Best Says Ashutosh Gowariker

Period drama Panipat is facing its fair share of comparison and controversies, and now filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker sets the record straight, said at least I am compared with the best.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Bajirao Mastani and Ashtusoh Gowariker helmed Panipat, are constantly compared.

Addressing the comparison criteria, Ashutosh said, “Any film which comes under Historic, Comic or Action genre gets compared to the previous one. But in our case, the period that we’ve chosen is 20 years after the Bajirao Masatani period, so the dressing sense is the same, they are same Peshwa’s and Maratha’s, it the same Shaniwar Wada, where they live, because 20 years is not much time for change”

“So the first impression of the trailer will be definitely same as pervious release. When I made Jodhaa-Akbar, it’s first comparison was done with MughaleAzam, though there is no connection between the two films. One belongs with black and white era and on the top of it, Hrithik was compared to Prithivi Raj Kapoor Ji, given that there is age difference between both the characters”

“So it is a natural thing to compare, and we were prepared for it from the beginning. At least we are being compared to the best” added Ashutosh.

A certain sector also objected to the fact that filmmaker has taken liberty to glorify Afghani invader Ahmad Shah Abdali and the film aims to diminish the glory of Maratha’s.

Talking about the controversies, Ashutosh said, “People should watch the film first, and after that all their questions, curiosity, intrigue or even aggression, all the answers are there in the film. Once they watch the film, they would realize that everything is just fine”.

The film stars an incredible ensemble of Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon, Mohnish Bahl, Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman, Sahil Salathia, Kunal Kapoor, Nawab Shah and more.

The film is produced by Sunita Gowariker and Rohit Shelatkar, slated for 6th December 2019 release.
