The first official trailer of “Dolemite Is My Name” is here and this one stars Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes in this retro classic ghetto story about a comedian.

The film is based on a comedian and ’70s blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore, he is best known for co-writing and starring as the titular pimp in the 1975 film Dolemite, based on the character he developed onstage.

The '70s-set film tells the story of how multi-hyphenate Rudy Ray Moore launched a movie career with one of the most popular Blaxploitation films of all time.

Moore rode the Dolemite character he created into a successful career that spanned four decades. Honing his craft in comedy clubs, he released several comedy albums starting with 1959’s “Below the Belt.” Success, however, wouldn’t come until a trio of raunchy albums he released between 1970 and 1971: Eat Out More Often, This Pussy Belongs to Me and The Dirty Dozens.

The trailer follows Moore’s journey from failing comedian to Hollywood legend. Murphy’s already receiving some Oscars buzz for his performance, which isn’t too surprising if you watch the trailer — it looks very promising!

The film also stars Keegan-Michael Key, Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Tituss Burgess, Snoop Dogg, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and more.

The film is directed by Craig Brewer and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, then head to Netflix and select theaters sometime later this fall.
