Discrimination Is Not Limited To Rural India Says Ayushmann Khurrana

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana says caste discrimination is not just limited to rural India, it is happening in Urban India as well on the sidelines of his recent media interaction.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha hosted an interactive session in Mumbai for forthcoming Article 15, which tackles the issue of caste discrimination in India.

Talking about the tackling such a burning issue which is prevalent in Indian society, Ayushmann said, “It is a give and take relationship between films and society; sometimes you give back to society via films, and sometimes take from society. So with this film, we’re taking from society and at the same time giving back too. See this discrimination is not just limited to rural India, it is very much happening in Urban India as well. It is happening on very subliminal level in urban areas, we don’t openly talk about it but in rural India it is happening blatantly”

Ayushmann Khurrana is noted for his light-hearted roles but this Article 15, the actor has made a bold move.

Talking about his realistic role, Ayushmann said, “As an actor you should be little flexible and malleable, that you could pull off something which audience isn’t expecting from you. If a message comes from main stream cinema, it has more reach. If this film only goes to film festivals, people who are watching it there are the people who already agrees with the agenda, that discrimination happens. But this film should reach to people who believe in caste divide, and until the film reaches to those people its purpose will not be fulfilled”
