All We Imagine as Light to Open MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 Following Cannes Win

The critically acclaimed film All We Imagine as Light, which made history as the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the 77th Festival de Cannes, is set to open the 2024 edition of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival on October 18, 2024. This prestigious film, co-produced by petit chaos from France, and Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth from India, will be distributed in India by Spirit Media.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Mumbai, All We Imagine as Light follows the journey of Nurse Prabha, who is thrown into turmoil after receiving an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Alongside her younger roommate Anu, who struggles to find intimacy with her boyfriend, and Parvati, the cook at the hospital and Prabha's confidant, the trio embarks on an unexpected trip to a beach town in Ratnagiri. This journey allows them the space to reflect on their life choices and relationships.

Rana Daggubati, an actor, producer, distributor, and board member of MAMI, expressed his excitement about the film’s Indian debut: “After creating history at Cannes and a tremendous theatrical opening in France, we are thrilled to bring the film to festival-goers and audiences in India. MAMI strives to champion independent voices and elevate South Asian talent, and opening the festival this year with All We Imagine as Light is one of the many ways we continue to support this mission.”

The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, taking place from October 19 to October 24, 2024, promises a spectacular six-day celebration of world cinema, creativity, and culture. With over 110 films in more than 50 languages, including both feature and non-feature films across various genres, the festival is set to showcase cinematic excellence and provide a platform for diverse storytelling.

As the festival approaches, audiences can look forward to not only the opening film but also a rich selection of works that reflect the vibrancy of global cinema, making this year’s MAMI an event not to be missed.
