Rajshri Entertainment, Purple Pebble Pictures, and Kothare Vision Pvt Ltd are joining forces to bring audiences the highly anticipated Marathi film Paani, which will hit cinemas on October 18. The film addresses the critical issue of water scarcity in Maharashtra, a pressing concern that resonates deeply with many communities.
Having already garnered significant attention with its teaser, the film’s newly released trailer highlights the journey of Hanumant Kendre, a young man dubbed a 'jaldoot' (water warrior) in his state. Portrayed by Addinath M Kothare, who also takes on the role of director, the film delves into Hanumant's relentless pursuit of solutions to the water crisis affecting his village in Marathwada.
The trailer paints a poignant picture of the struggles faced by Hanumant as he grapples with the harsh realities of water shortage, including the impact on his personal life and marriage prospects. The narrative centers on his decision to remain in his village despite the exodus of families seeking better opportunities elsewhere, emphasizing themes of resilience and dedication.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Rucha Vaidya, Subodh Bhave, Rajit Kapur, Kishore Kadam, Nitin Dixit, Sachin Goswami, and Mohanabai, among others. Produced by Neha Barjatya, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and the late Rajjat Barjatya, the film also sees contributions from Mahesh Kothare and Siddharth Chopra as associate producers.
Addinath expressed his joy and gratitude for everyone involved in the project, noting the challenges of wearing multiple hats as writer, director, and actor. He emphasized the film’s aim to raise awareness about water scarcity, stating, "Even if we succeed in creating awareness around water shortage in a few people, we'll be happy about it." He also extended his thanks to Shankar Mahadevan for lending his voice to the film's title track and Aamir Khan Productions for their support.
