Playing Negative Role Is Fun Says Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt, known for his dynamic roles and powerful screen presence, is set to explore a new facet of his acting skills as he steps into the shoes of a villain in the upcoming film Double iSmart. At the launch event for the film’s latest song, "Big Bull," held in Mumbai, Dutt shared insights into his experience and the challenges of taking on a negative role in a South Indian film.

At the launch event, which saw the presence of actors Ram Pothineni, Kavya Thapar, Ali, producer Charmme Kaur, director Puri Jagannadh, and Vish Reddy of Puri Connects.

Sanjay Dutt candidly discussed his foray into a villainous role. He expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to explore this new dimension of acting. “I think it’s a challenge for me also, to be in a South film. And negative is a good space to be in, Bahut kuch karne ko milta hai. Maarne ko milta hai, maar khaane ko milta hai. Rape kat gaya hai, but there is something to do for an actor after doing so many films,” Dutt said, highlighting the excitement and complexity of playing a negative character.

When asked about returning to romantic roles, Dutt was open to the idea but noted that his career has been largely defined by mass appeal roles. He reminisced about his past romantic films, particularly Saajan (1991), stating, “Yes, I’d like to do romance if I get the right film. But our generation used to work for the mass audience. Hum log massy hero hai. Apun Saajan (1991) kar liya tha ek time. It was a great film with lovely songs. So yeah, I’d love to do a film like that.”

Double iSmart is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster iSmart Shankar. Set to hit theaters on August 15, the film promises to deliver high-octane action and drama.
