Grammy Glory and Musical Kinship: Shankar Mahadevan's Triumph and Tribute to Ustad Zakir Hussain

Renowned singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan returned home to a heartwarming surprise after his triumphant win at the 2024 Grammys. Basking in the glory of his recent Grammy win in the Best Global Music Album category alongside the legendary fusion band Shakti and tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, Mahadevan couldn't contain his gratitude towards his long-time collaborator and friend.

With his family and friends orchestrating a grand welcome at the airport, complete with hundreds of balloons, a massive poster, and a bus ride adorned with celebratory decorations, Mahadevan's homecoming was nothing short of spectacular. The joyous atmosphere mirrored the elation surrounding his monumental achievement.

Reflecting on his collaboration with Ustad Zakir Hussain, Mahadevan spoke fondly of their enduring partnership. "The final word in rhythm, according to me, is Ustad Zakir Hussain," Mahadevan expressed. "He is guru, he is mentor, and he stood by me like a friend, philosopher, and guide." Their shared musical journey, spanning over two decades, culminated in a momentous Grammy win, solidifying their legacy in the global music scene.

Mahadevan's excitement and gratitude were palpable as he shared his thoughts on the win. He said, “What can I say, this is a very special moment for me and for all my band-members, we have won in the best global category, it is a very prestigious thing and for me it’s a dream come true. I used to listen to his band on a cassette and would try to learn from it, then 20 years later I became a part of that band and toured with them for 25 years and finally won the Grammy.”

Expressing his excitement and happiness, Shankar Mahadevan distributed chocolates for everyone while making his way out of the airport.
