Playing Transgender In Safed, Was Emotionally And Physically Challenging Says Barkha Sen Gupta

Actress Barkha Sen Gupta, who will be seen playing the role of a transgender in Safed said the film has been emotionally and physically challenging but rewarding.

Helmed by debutante Sandeep Singh, also starring Abhay Verma and Meera Chopra, the film throws light into the dark world of a widow and a eunuch who, isolated and abandoned by society, finding solace in each other. The film is shot against the rustic background of Banaras.

Talking about the film and her role during the music launch, Barkha said, “Safed journey has been difficult, it has been tremendously challenging and difficult, emotionally, and personally as well. But now, when I look at the film, I get this feeling of doing something right. I am grateful that Safed happened to me. The film has been an emotional journey from beginning to end.”

“I am playing the role of a Trans-gender in the movie, so this is something I have done for the first time in my career. When Sandeep offered me the role, I was taken aback, I was like have you seen me, I am too pretty to play a transgender, who would you make me look like a trans…but we worked hard, we tried many looks, eventually I was convinced that I can play a trans. Physically, it was a challenging role, I had to work on my look, voice, and gesturing. It was different” added Barkha.

Safed is presented by Legend Studios, Anand Pandit and Ajay Harinath Singh. The film will stream on ZEE5 from 29th December 2023.
