Political Biographies Are Challenging Says Shyam Benegal On Mujib

Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who graced the special screening of Mujib – The Making Of A Nation, said making a political biography is particularly challenging task, as you have to rise above opinions and be true to subject.

The makers of Mujib – The Making Of A Nation hosted a special screening of the film in Mumbai last night. Celebrities such as Arifin Shuvoo, Shyam Benegal, Aditi Rao Hydari, R Balki, Naseeruddin Shah, Divya Datta, Siddharth Suryanarayan, Rajit Kapoor and more were seen in attendance.

Helmed by Shyam Benegal, the film is a first ever government funded biopic based on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh and father of the nation, popularly known as Bangabandhu, who was assassinated with his family during coup d'état in 1975.

When asked if biographies were challenging to make, filmmaker Shyam Benegal said, “Every film is challenging, but biographies are particularly challenging, political biographies are not easy to make, because many people have different kind of opinions, and you have to rise above all those opinions, because you will be seen as taking sides, you cannot afford to take sides, because you have to be true, not necessarily to the individuals or even governments, you have to be true to the subject. Which means, you must rise above all that, and that is a very difficult thing to do.”

The film also stars Arifin Shuvoo, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Nusraat Faria, Shahidul Alam, Deepak Antani, Rajit Kapur and more. The film is slated for 27th October 2023 release.
