Sam Manekshaw’s Daughter’s Germinated The Idea Of Biopic Says Ronnie Screwvala

RSVP Movies head honcho Ronnie Scrwevala, who is backing the biopic Sam Bahadur, shares an interesting story about the idea of making the film on First Indian Field Marshal germinated.

Ronnie Screwvala along with Meghna Gulzar, Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanya Malhotra were interacting with the media during the teaser launch of Sam Bahadur.

Sharing an interesting story about greenlighting the biopic, Ronnie said, “Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw’s two daughter’s Sherry and Maya came over to my house once, this is the time where I had stopped making films for 6-7 years after quitting UTV. The daughters came over and said, they have been wanting to make a film on their dad, and it was a long one and half hour conversation, they have been approached by one or two people and what should they do?”

“I started giving them advice for the first half an hour, by the second half hour, I melted and said, I should get back to making movies again. And by the third half an hour, I talked them out of everyone who has given them a proposal and I think I said, I will make it. But they said, you stopped making movies, and I was like, this is the first one I will greenlight when I start making movies again” added Ronnie.

Ronnie also added that in India we don’t celebrate our icons, and this is his humble attempt to celebrate inspirational people.  He said, “I think in India we don’t celebrate iconic heroes enough, being a soft power, which we should do, but America takes that, as they make movies on all their icons, they make them bigger than life. They even take someone shooting people in Afghanistan and make them into heroes. So, I think as a soft power in India, we need to celebrate our icons, inspirational people.”

The film is slated for 1st December 2023 release.
