Emotional About The Jio MAMI Festivals Comeback Says Anupama Chopra

Film critic Anupama Chopra, who serves on the board of Jio MAMI, says she is emotional about the return of the Mumbai Film Festival, and they have plans to make it the center of South Asian Cinema.

While interacting during the inaugural press conference, Anupama Chopra expressed her emotions about the festival making a comeback after 3 long years, she said, “More than excited, I think I am emotional because there was a break of so many years, that couldn’t be helped. Now the festival is coming back, I am emotional about it, and the kind of scale it is coming back with. You know, we got over 1000 film submissions, because there are so many filmmakers who need a platform, which should also tell you how important this festival is.”

Jio MAMI is expanding its wings to South Asia and beyond, and talking about the same, Anupama added, “It's a newer version of Jio MAMI, more like 2-point-O version, and we’re brainstorming what we should do to differentiate. So, the team came up with the idea of inviting the entire South Asia, and I was fully supportive of the idea. The idea is to make Jio MAMI, the center of South Asia, because our neighboring countries don't have it and if we can be the center of South Asian Cinema, it would be fantastic.”

Anupama Chopra also added that the Indian content now has global appeal and storytelling from India is for the world.

She said, “Since the last time Jio MAMI took place in 2019, the landscape of entertainment has changed, now streaming and OTT are so massive, so that has made our narrative and storytelling style, has already become global. Natu Natu song has won an Oscar, I feel the momentum has started, now our aim should be, storytelling out of India, for the world.”
