I Didn’t Take Popping Pills Sportingly Says Sana Makbul Sharing Her Struggle With Live Disease

Actress Sana Makbul, who shared about her battle with liver ailments talked about her struggle with the disease and seeking help from doctors on World Hepatitis Day, yesterday.

Sana Makbul graced a workshop organized by HN Reliance Foundation Hospital (HN RFH) for youngsters to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining liver health.

Sana Makbul Khan was diagnosed with a chronic liver disease in 2019, which on further evaluation turned out to be autoimmune hepatitis with significant fibrosis of the liver. She was started on steroids for the treatment of autoimmune hepatitis.

Talking about her struggle with taking medicine and dealing with its side effects with Newshelpline, Sana said, “I am not that ill, I am strong, but it is true that popping pills is nothing something which I took very sportingly, because you have to pop a pill every day, it is not a pill, it is a steroid and immune suppressant, which sort of muck up with your body and mind, and every time I go through those changing phases, I make sure I talk to my doctor, and I don’t talk about my illness, I talk about my feelings, the way I feel. There were days when I didn’t wanted to get out of my room, but you have to deal with it and talk to your doctor.”

“Only a doctor could possibly understand my mental stability, because I may not talk to my mother, what am I going through, she might not know the answers, but a doctor knows about the effects of medicine, and sort my queries” added Sana.

Sana underwent severe steroid side effects leading to weight gain and puffiness which was affecting her career. She battled all those successfully, post which her liver fibrosis improved significantly. She became healthy enough to then go on to participate in Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2021.
