Naseeruddin Shah, Vivek Vaswani And Ratna Pathak Shah At The Special Screening of Mahal

Mumbai, 27th July 2023 (Newshelpline) - Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Patha Shah, Vivek Vaswani and more graced the special screening of Mahal (1949) at Regal Cinema in Mumbai.

Filmmaker Kamal Amrohi’s directorial debut, Mahal, starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala, was written by Amrohi, while its music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.

Talking about the film, actor and producer Vivek said, “I have watched it 8 times, it is an iconic film and that is why I am here to watch it. I have seen the film before but 35mm is a different thing, I remember I made my first time in 35mm – black and white, now everything is digital.”

When asked if Vivek would make an experimental movie in 35 mm now, and he added, “Making 35mm now would be way too expensive, now everything is digital, as technology has moved things have become cheaper, we cannot afford this anymore.”

Cited as Bollywood's first horror film, the film's success paved the way for Indian gothic fiction, and launched Madhubala and playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, who had lent her voice to the film's soundtrack, into super-stardom.
