Filmmaker Hansal Mehta celebrates 25 years of Maachis, a socio-political drama helmed by Gulzar, based on Sikh Insurgency in Punjab.

Starring Tabu, Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, the film enjoys cult status due it socio-political undertones, timeless songs and powerful performances. The film based on Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta worked on creating the promo of the film. He just took to his social media profile and shared a story, it read, “The film that so many lives. Including mine. 25 years of Maachis”

Maachis bagged National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Tabu also won her first National Film Award.

Meanwhile on the work front, Hansal Mehta is busy with Faraaz’ which is based on the Holey Artisan cafe attack that shook Bangladesh in 2016, along with Captain India, inspired by true events, starring Kartik Aaryan.

Kartik Aaryan will play the role of a pilot in the film, which is bankrolled by RSVP and Baweja Studios, and will reportedly revisit ‘one of the most successful rescue operations in Indian history’.
