Sanjay Leela Bhansali to direct web series 'Heeramandi' for Netflix

Netflix India too shared their excitement about the news on their official social media page and wrote, " “We are excited to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi IS COMING TO NETFLIX. Words aren’t enough to explain how excited we are that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is partnering with us for this epic Netflix Original series but these emojis come pretty close.”
The series will be as grand and elaborate as any film sets of Bhansali film. It will explore stories of courtesans, the hidden cultural reality of Heeramandi, a district in Lahore in pre Independence India. It will traverse over the themes of love, betrayal, succession and politics through three generations of courtesans in the 'kothas' of the city.
No details have been shared about the cast and crew of the series.
Meanwhile, the director's film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' starring Alia Bhatt will also be released soon. It is a biographical crime film based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It focuses on the life of Gangubai , the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura.
