Minor blast near Israel Embassy in Delhi

On Friday evening, a minor explosion took place at a spot near the Israel Embassy. The Delhi Police Special Cell obtained a CCTV footage showing a car drop off two people walking towards the spot.

The team of investigators from Israel could arrive in New Delhi as early as Saturday to assist Indian agencies in the probe over the blast in which some cars were damaged in the high-security zone of Lutyens’ Delhi.

The Delhi Police have initiated a probe in the involvement of the two people in the attack. The Police have identified the driver of the vehicle and prepared the sketches of the two people.

The blast took place 1.4 km away from Vijay Chowk where the Beating Retreating ceremony was been honoured by the President, the Prime Minister and other senior members of the government.

A letter marking the explosion as “trailer” was also recovered from the site of the blast. Sources said that the letter also mentions Iran’s General Qasem Soleimani and top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh as “martyrs”.

Both were assassinated last year. Soleimani was killed near the Baghdad International Airport in a drone strike ordered by then US President Donald Trump on January 3.

The National Capital has been sounded with high alert and security at the airport and other strategic locations have intensified.
